Size Matters

Pregnancy does enormous changes to mummy’s body.

She swells like a pumpkin right from day one of pregnancy. She eats eats eats paying no regard to the bathroom scale. She enjoys admiring herself with big protruding tummy in front of the mirror. When considering the well-being and growth of her baby, her gigantic body size, highly pigmented skin tone, engorged breasts, plumy feet, broadened hips, opened up belly button, bulgy bums all these do not matter to her very much. Moreover, she consoles herself by saying these as the “Beauty of Pregnancy”.

But tables are turned after delivery.

Along with the baby’s arrival comes post-natal depression and baby blues for the mummy. She becomes too emotional and sensitive. Her body weight adds up to her raging temperament.

She constantly strives to increase her baby weight and to decrease her body weight. She stands in front of the mirror and wonders what has happened to her reflection? She examines every flaw, bulge and sag. She seems to be looking still 4 months pregnant. She feels gross and huge. She yearns for her youthful body…

The advertisements about slimming therapy, weight loss massage, pills, waist belts seem to be shouting too loud in her ears. She feels too big enough to be worthy. Failing to get back into pre-pregnancy clothes adds insult to her injury. She just hates to buy dress marked as ‘L’ or ‘XL’. All that she wears now are Baggy T-Shirts, big pants, poo coloured tops and nothing attractive …… She was a pride owner of a thin figure. But not anymore…….and it seems like nevermore…..

The brand new mummy described here in terms of ‘She, she, she ……’ is applicable to every mummy as ‘I,I,I……’

Come on mummies, cheer up. We can make it up.
